Idavoll: 'Request current affiliations' implemented
I just committed a new version of Idavoll with an implementation of section 6.1.5 or JEP-0060: Publish-Subscribe. I already implemented a suggestion I just made to the standards-jig mailinglist.

Idavoll
I've just created a new project page at JabberStudio for Idavoll, a generic Publish Subscribe component for jabberd in Python. Its name is from norse mythology. Wohoo!

Nicknames in Jabber
Inspired by a post by cbas, I have thought of a new application for Publish Subscribe. Legacy IM systems like MSN have a feature to show a piece of text as someone's nickname. Since you define the name of people on your roster yourself, some client may like to implement changing nicknames as well. I think pub/sub is nice for this: people who want your strange changing nicks can be notified of such a change.

Jabbevangelism
A while ago 
Luc Demarteau
of Splendo contacted me to
co-author an article. Splendo is a dutch startup that develops
(wireless) instant messaging solutions. They are also very busy on the
Jabber front, both in
business solutions as in consumer applications. One of their products is
MiMessenger. We had contact earlier because he read my blog and I had
commented on an interview
with him (dutch) in Emerce, a dutch magazine.
This time, he was writing an article for LanVision, the magazine of NGN, the Dutch Network Users Association about IM in businesses in general and Jabber more specifically. He asked me if I would be interested in writing a hands-on piece on installing jabberd, and so did. The article is in dutch by the way, and this is good. It would be nice to have more attention for Jabber here in the Netherlands, more like they have in Poland.
I hope the people at NGN don't mind, but I scanned the article for those few that read my blog and could use a hand in convincing managers to consider using Jabber for their business. If you like the article, consider joining the NGN.
The post browser era?
I just read the article Future:
Is there life after the browser?. Quite thought
provoking, certainly in relation to all things Jabber. The first thing that came to
mind again was a post by DJ almost a year ago:

I need some more time to reflect on this.

Since I've taken up the idea to write an (internal) blog for my Masters project, this blog shouldn't be left behind. Expect more bloggage!
Although I'm quite busy doing my Masters project, I am still
following Jabber stuff and
other vaguely related topics. An exciting new JEP by Joe
Hildebrand (hildjj) has popped up: JEP-0080: Geographic
Location Information. Since Thomas Muldowney
(temas) gave me the idea to build the Jabber World Map I've been pretty
interested in maps, locations and the like. Also, I've been wanting to
make it even more Jabber
